בהעלותך

This weeks parsha deals mainly with various priestly duties, which, while not all that interesting on their own, presents an interesting question on a textual level.  Leviticus seems to be the book dealing primarily with the service of the kohen (priest) and so it could fairly be asked why we are hearing additional priestly duties now.  Further, when I think of the amount of the Chumash (Torah) devoted to the kohanim (priests) it makes me wonder whether it may not have had negative side-effects to separate and elevate one tribe above (at least spiritually) the others.

Whatever happened
To ‘A kingdom of priests,
A holy people’?
